Death of a dream
I know we all have seen
Is it real life or silver screen
Death of a dream

It all feels so real at night
From dusk until morning light
But I know we all have seen
Death of a dream

You done your work and you bowed your head
Took off your clothes and crawled to bed
The day's over but the dream's just begun
A new world waits and your mind runs

And then in a flash, at dawn
You try hard to just hold on
Foggy memory, a faded gleam
Death of a dream

For in that death what dreams may come
A new one born when the old one's done
All decay makes the soil new
A heavy night makes a crystal dew

A dream dead but what is this
Another chance to follow bliss
All is not as it seems
Death of a dream
I know we all have seen
Death of a dream

Backstory:

We've all been there, I reckon. Been in a fantastic dream and then a rooster crows and you flap your eyelids and the dream fades on out. You try to hold on, keep that dream alive, but it's just.. gone. But wait, what's this? Another dream? Am I asleep or am I awake?

Somehow this happens with actual nighttime dreams, and with the dreams of our lives. Felt like a song, so I wrote it to help cope with my own dead or dying dreams.

And I guess I'm still in cowboy mode. Decided to try it "man and his guitar" style, but I was tortured. Could really hear this as a group number.
